Pub Chat: What Creature do you Relate to?

Greeting’s heathens and witches,

Welcome to Pub Chat! These episodes are for us to have a more free-form way to discuss listener questions, shorter subjects, as well as magical happenings, musings, and of course, go off on tangents.

In this week's Pub Chat, we ask the question what creature do you relate to the most and why? A simple question on the surface but one that reveals much. So, we recently watched an interview with Guillermo del Toro and Mike Flanagan where this question was posed and couldn’t help but explore this idea as a novel approach to self-analysis and a fun way to celebrate the spooky season.

Kitchen Witchery 103: Planning a Magical Meal

With the Samhain and the Holiday season coming up, dinner parties, family meals, and of course Thanksgiving will be on people’s minds. Maybe you want to host your own dinner party or Friendsgiving, so we’re here to help you help plan one!

We start with the mundane foundations of planning a feast: deciding a theme, serving styles, what dishes to have, serving sizes, tips and more. Then we move into the magical side of planning a feast, like adding intention, using correspondences, and other magical methods.

We also discuss our experiences making magical feasts and give you a sample meal that’s fancy enough for an anniversary, and easy enough for any home cook to make.

Greeting’s heathens and witches,

Welcome to Pub Chat! These episodes are for us to have a more free-form way to discuss listener questions, shorter subjects, as well as magical happenings, musings, and of course, go off on tangents.

Additionally, we strive to modernize and degender them by proposing alternative triple terms and briefly touching upon some binary terms. So, grab a drink and join us as we discuss and explore the Maiden, Mother, Crone triple goddess archetype with hopes of gaining a better understanding of these concepts and their relevance to us today.

Mabon 103: Living in Harmony with the Seasons

Welcome to the Horn and Cauldron podcast…

Mabon, which takes place on the Autumnal Equinox, is about balance and gratitude. I like to think of the modern witchcraft sabbats, and the Norse blots as ways to honor, explore, experience, and add magic to the seasons as they pass by. There's nothing wrong with having a favorite season, but have you considered finding joy in each season as you experience it?

We've often talk about how moving to a small cabin in the woods at the edge of civilization has taught us how to understand and live with the change in seasons. Not everyone has the ability or desire to live in a cabin at the edge of the woods, dispensing wisdom and the occasional potion to visitors and passersby, but you can find your own way to live with the seasons, even if you generally hate the cold of winter, or the heat of summer.

In this episode, we go over the mundane and magical ways you can incorporate seasonal harmony into your routine. We also talk about the ways that living in harmony with the seasons has helped us, and how we incorporate it in our lives.

Pub Chat: Determinism(Fate) vs Free Will

Greeting’s heathens and witches,

Welcome to Pub Chat! These episodes are for us to have a more free-form way to discuss listener questions, shorter subjects, as well as magical happenings, musings, and of course, go off on tangents.

This week we talk about ideas surrounding free will, determinism, and fate. Do we have free will? Is our reality deterministic? Can you escape your fate, or change it? Join us as we explore these questions and more with a hefty dose of speculation, a little bit of science, and a fair bit of drinking. From defining these terms to sharing our opinions and asking about yours, this week is a bit more existential an exploration but we had a ton of fun talking about it and can’t wait to hear what you think!

Intro to Chaos Magic

Welcome to the Horn and Cauldron podcast…

Chaos magic is a modern magic tradition rooted in the Spiritualist era of the mid 19th and late 20th centuries that emphasizes the idea that belief or intention is the most important part of any spellwork. We begin our exploration of Chaos Magic with Austin Osman Spare, and then discuss Peter J. Carroll’s role.

We also discuss the core beliefs of chaos magic, like N=1, the role of belief, gnosis, sigils, and servitors. As usual, we talk about how our own magical practices align with the tenets of Chaos magic, and how we use them in the day to day. It’s so exciting to be able to bring you this episode—it’s been in the works for a while!

Color Magic

Welcome to the Horn and Cauldron podcast…

Using color for magical endeavors and even healing has been around for thousands of years. Chromotherapy, sometimes called vibrational healing, is when you use colors, usually in the form of colored light being shone on certain parts of the body, to infuse water, for painted walls or glasses.

Theosophy and its founder Helena Blavatsky have been mentioned in many episodes, and it also plays a large part in what we think of as color’s magical properties today. Several prominent Using Theosophist theory, the book “Thought-Forms” was written.

Together, Chromotherapy and Theosophy contributed greatly to the color magic and correspondences we know today.  Join us as we talk about all of this and more, blending history, science, and magic. We also discuss our own experiences with color magic, two spells we’ve written, and give you correspondences to boost your spellwork.

Midsummer 103: Travel Magic

Welcome to the Horn and Cauldron podcast…

Midsummer, also known as Litha takes place on the Summer Solstice, which is the longest day of the year. This festival celebrates abundance, growth, fertility, solar energy, and is a popular time to do magic, harvest herbs, have ritual baths, and fertility rituals. It’s also associated with fairies, bonfires, and handfasting.

It seems most people want to be outside and enjoying the weather during this season, whether it be going to the lake, ocean, a faraway destination, or even a simple day trip. Since travel is on the mind, we’re talking about travel magic. We’ll be talking about three types of travel magic: magic you can take with you, pre-trip protection magic, and magical pilgrimages.
